Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Alda Delight Gundersen Lovell, age 76, died October 25, 2010 peacefully at her home in Fredericksburg.
She was born September 4, 1934 in Staten Island Hospital, in New York City; the daughter of Henry and Delight Gundersen, both deceased and buried in Crown View Cemetery, Sheridan Indiana where Alda will be buried. She was married April 25, 1953 to Earl F. Lovell, a retired Marine Colonel, who preceded her in death in April 1999 and is buried at Quantico National Cemetery.
Alda is survived by her four children, Deborah D. Lovell, Sandra L. Lovell, Stephen J. Lovell of Virginia and Robin L. Dial of Minnesota; Four grandchildren, Kyle Doyle, Kelly Doyle, Siglind Dial and Linnea Dial; a sister, Betty Lee Cooper of Indiana; a nephew, Chris D. Glover; and many cousins and Aunts and an Uncle who reside in Indiana.
She was baptized and Confirmed as a Lutheran, then joined St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Arlington, VA in 1989 when moving to Arlington, VA from her long time home in Springfield, VA. Upon moving to Fredericksburg, she attended Christ Episcopal Church in Spotsylvania CH. Alda was very active in the Episcopal Church, completing 4 years of Education for Ministry, a Lay Reader and Chalice Bearer and Sunday School teacher for 20 years.
Alda graduated from George Mason University in 1984 at the age of 50 with a BSN and worked in many areas of Nursing, ending her career as an Occupational Nurse, managing a Health Clinic at the Department of Education in DC. Alda retired in October 2008.
Alda was a member of the National Honor Society of Secondary Schools, DAR and St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
Viewing for family and friends will be at Kercheval's Funeral Home in Sheridan, IN Friday, October 29, 2010 and Burial will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2010 in Crown View Cemetery, Sheridan, IN. A memorial service will be held at a later time at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Arlington VA.
