Barbara Ann Rice, age 78, of Stafford, passed away at Marian Manor on April 26, 2009, joining her parents Hervey and Ida Rice and siblings, Carolyn Baker, Hervey (Beezo), Jimmy, and Willie Rice in the kingdom of heaven.
Barbara was born September 23, 1930 in Burke, Virginia. At age 5, the family moved to Lorton, Virginia where she attended Lorton Elementary School. Barbara graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1947. She worked as a civilian employee for the Fairfax County Police Department, retiring in 1986 after 20 years of service. During retirement, Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family, caring for the squirrels and birds that shared her yard, painting, and walking with her friend, Judy Spinetti. She also served for several years as a Meals-On-Wheels volunteer. Barbara is survived by her daughters, Carol Anne Lorien and Bobbie Sue Dovel, and her son-in-law Wayne Dovel; four grandchildren, Rani Wood and husband Brian, Renee Reid and husband Brian, Kelly Adams and husband Dean, and Nick Dovel; and five great-grandchildren, Andrea, Nekae, Danielle, Sydney, and Jessica. She filled their hearts with love and happiness. She will be greatly missed. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm Wednesday, April 29, 2009 in the chapel of Laurel Hill Funeral Home with interment to follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:00 - 2:00pm Wednesday prior to the service.
