Barbara Veronica Peters, 68, of Locust Grove, VA passed away Thur. July 10, 2014 at Mary Washington Hospital, with her loved ones by her side.
Barbara was born on May 8, 1946 to Robert Lewis and Mary Katherine (Lusher) Manion in Queens, NY. She received her R.N degree from Suffolk Community College in NY. Barbara married Bruce Robert Peters on June 8, 1968 in Bellport, NY. She worked at hospitals, nursing homes and as a private duty nurse, and participated in campaigning for her selected politicians, before retiring. Barbara was instrumental in starting the PTA at the Kreamer Elementary School in Bellport. She also was a member of a bowling league, enjoyed gardening and especially time with her grandchildren.
Barbara and Bruce moved to Locust Grove, VA in 2005, from Long Island, NY.
Survivors include: her husband, Bruce; 1 son; James R. Peters (Joanna); 2 daughters; Jennifer Mary Gillooly (T.J.), Mary Katherine Rehberg (Eric); 1 Bro, Robert Lewis Manion; 1 sister; Janet Nora Palmer, and 9 grandchildren; Stephanie, Jessie, Daniel, Ben, Ethan, Madison, Aiden, Amanda and Ryland. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and 1 sister, Patricia Margaret.
Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 pm and from 7:00 to 9:00 pm, on Monday, July 14, 2014 at Laurel Hill funeral home with funeral services held at 11 am on Tuesday, July 15, 2014 with Pastor Keith Boyette officiating.
Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park. Donations in the name of Barbara V. Peters may be made to Hematology-Oncology Associates of Fredericksburg, Inc
