Benjamin Joseph Jason, 92, of Locust Grove, VA, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 25, 2017, while traveling with friends in Pennsylvania. Ben was born on February 21, 1925, to Benjamin J. and Mary G. (Tomczak) Jastremski in Plains, PA. He served in the US Navy during WWII and was recalled to serve during the Korean Conflict. In World War II, while assigned as the chief navigator of the USS Kewaydin, he participated in Operation Mulberry which supported the troops landing on Normandy. He was honored in France at the 70th Anniversary of the Normandy Landing. He married Magdalen Mary Krivak on June 27, 1946. They made their home in Silver Spring, MD, while Ben served for over 19 years with the Metropolitan Police Department. Ben was one of the arresting officers when Puerto Rican terrorists fired more than 30 shots in the House of Representatives, wounding five Congressmen, on March 1, 1954. He retired on October 1, 1968. Ben was a long-time member of American Legion Post 41, Knights of Columbus, Association of Retired Police Officers, and AARP and NARFE. He enjoyed playing golf, volunteered with Meals on Wheels, and played the accordion for various groups; especially on St. Patrick's Day. When they moved to Lake of the Woods, they became members of St. Patrick Catholic Church. At Lake of the Woods, Ben achieved his dream of living off the First Fairway of a golf course and was a Lake of the Woods golf champion. After his beloved wife, Magdalen, passed away on July 31, 2004, Ben remained very active, playing golf, entertaining many groups with the accordion, and traveling with friends. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 15, 2017, at 11:30 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fredericksburg, with Father Jerry Wooton officiating. Inurnment will occur at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery. Survivors include four daughters, Mary Ann Pierson (Douglas), Constance M. Roos (Ron), Theresa A. Kiss (Joe Beeler), Joan E. Conway (Barry), son, David B. (Tina), devoted companion Elaine Shirkey, brother Leonard Jastremski (Peggy) and sister Lottie Kubik. Ben is also survived by ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Charitable contributions may be made in Ben's name to the Dollard Suter Family Fund at the Police Federal Credit Union and Heroes, Inc.
