It is with great sadness that the family of Bernard Dennis Stewart announces his passing on December 30, 2024, in Culpeper, Virginia at the age of 74.

Born on October 31, 1950, in Brooklyn, New York Bernard embarked on a remarkable journey through life. At the age of 20, he joined the United States Navy, dedicating nearly 30 years to serving his country with pride and distinction. His naval career took him to far-off lands for war and for pleasure. Traveling many places more than once in his lifetime. After his service, he made Virginia Beach, Virginia, his home until retirement.

Bernard was a man of many passions and talents. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed cheering for his favorite teams, the New York Giants and Washington Redskins. A gifted musician, he spent countless hours perfecting his skills on the bass guitar and found joy in listening to music and dancing. His creative spirit shone through in his love for drawing and building model fighter jets. He also had a knack for supercharging sports cars—a testament to his inventive nature.

Above all else, Bernard was a loving brother, nephew, cousin, uncle, father, grandfather, and friend. He leaves behind his children: Damon Dennis Stewart, Michael Sean Stewart, and Sabrena Mary Stewart; his siblings: Debarah Stewart, Doreen Stewart, and Lashaun McAllister; as well as numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, grandchildren, and friends. He was predeceased by his siblings Pierre Stewart and Glenda Stewart.  And his mother Doris Stewart and father R.C. Freeman.

Bernard's legacy of service, creativity and family will forever be cherished by those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all whose lives he touched.
