Betty Jane "BJ" Normand, 82, of Fredericksburg, lost her long battle with cancer at home on Tuesday October 7, 2014. Betty was born on Nov. 19, 1931 in Roanoke, VA, to Marion Porter and Myrtle Martina (Burgmann) Robertson. She graduated from William Fleming High School and received her nursing degree in 1951 from the Roanoke Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
She married Eugene Franklin Normand 1960 in Roanoke. They made their home in the Fredericksburg area, where she worked for several doctors and at Mary Washington Hospital as a surgical nurse until retirement. They were long time members of the St. Mary Catholic Church. Betty was a Breast Cancer Survivor and had fought Multiple Myeloma Cancer for over 10 years. The sons want to say a special thanks to Dr. Essig, Mary Washington Hospice and their staff for long term care and support. Survivors include two sons; Albert F. Normand and Bruce P. Normand, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene and one brother; Bruce Robertson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday Oct. 9, 2014, from 6 to 8 pm at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania, with funeral services at St. Mary Catholic Church at 1 pm on Friday October 10, 2014 with Father Stephen Holmes officiating and interment to follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
