"Dougie"

In the early hours of Saturday, the 16th of October, Dougie (92) was called home by the Lord to be with his wife, Johann (Fritzi) and his youngest son Scott. He was born on the 27th of February, 1929 in the District of Columbia. He is survived by his oldest son Mark and wife Lori, and daughter-in-law Judy (widow of Scott). He was a Veteran of the Korean war and a member of the American Legion Post 177 in Fairfax VA.

He was married to the love of his life, Fritzi and a loving father to 2 sons Mark and Scott. He was a grandfather to Megan, Amy, Hunter, Jordan and Bryce as well as a great-grandfather of 7. He touched so many lives in his journey through this life and will be remembered by many for his greeting of "Hello Handsome" to many a child stepping up to the plate, as he was a Little League Baseball Umpire for more than 40 years.

His passions in life included his wife Fritzi, his love of the Lord, umpiring, volunteering at Mary Washington Hospital, meeting and talking to anyone and everyone, and most of all, Singing. Wherever he went you would hear him singing before you saw him. Dougie was a regular at the Colonial Tavern every Monday night where he and his guitar would entertain the masses. He will be greatly missed. God speed Dad, we will meet again.

Relatives and friends are invited to Dougie's visitation at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Rd. Spotsylvania, VA on Friday, October 29, 2021 from 10 AM until time of funeral service at 11 AM. Interment will follow in the Laurel Hill Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wilderness Baptist Church, 9701 Plank Rd, Spotsylvania, VA 22553.
