Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Carolyn Lee Stevens of Fredericksburg
announce her passing after a brief illness. Carolyn was born in Washington DC in
1944 to Harry J. Cozlin Jr. and Audrey Theresa Cozlin. A few months after she was
born her father Harry was killed in action in the Pacific Islands on Iwo Jima and
although her mother re-married and had more children the absence of her father
was a source of inner sadness throughout her life. After graduation, she obtained
a Federal Civil Service position with the US State Department and at the age of 19,
she married the love of her life and soulmate, David Tarleton Stevens. They had
two daughters and to ensure they were well taken care of Carolyn stayed home
with them fulltime. After a few years she returned to work and in 1993 she and
David moved from Dale City to Fredericksburg. In 1996 she became a grandmother
to twin grandsons and to ensure they were also well taken care of she retired from
federal civilian service to care for her grandchildren fulltime. Carolyn was old
fashioned at heart with an inner beauty and sweet disposition, she was dignified
but also loved a good joke, she was intelligent and always able to hold her own in
conversations about current events, history, politics, or even silly cartoon shows
but with all of her wonderful qualities, the one that best describes her, was her
steadfast faith and devotion to our Heavenly Father. Carolyn's faith in Him carried
her through life and it never wavered even in her darkest moments. Not only did
she teach her children and grandchildren to also live by continuous faith, the way
she conducted her life was an everyday example of how she felt God expects us to
live. She loved her family more than herself, she was a woman of integrity who
treated others as she wanted to be treated, she lived a peaceful, honorable, law
abiding life, and under no circumstances would she ever steal or tell a lie. Carolyn
was pre-deceased by her husband David, her son-in-law Kevin, and many other
distant family members, and is survived by her two daughters Lisa Sizemore (Larry)
and Judy Hardin (Kevin, deceased), her two grandsons Larry J. Sizemore and Jeremy
D. Sizemore, her precious little long-haired dachshund Cappuccino, and a halfbrother
Gus Lee Law III (and family). The loss of such a loving, selfless, nurturing
mother and grandmother has brought such deep sorrow to her family and has
begun a long, difficult journey toward recovery and healing. She is already missed
more than any words could ever express. May our Heavenly Father bless her and
keep her close to him until we are reunited with her again.
