Cathy Gay (Akers) Nuckols, 60, of Spotsylvania passed away at home, with her family at her side, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. Cathy was born on November 9, 1957 in Arlington, VA to Billy Wayne and Dorothy Gay (Townsend) Akers. She married David Wayne Nuckols on April 5, 1973 in Loudoun County, VA. They lived for over 20 years in Woodbridge, VA before moving to Spotsylvania in 2001. Cathy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, who enjoyed antiques, decorating and flowers. Survivors include her husband, David; two sons; David (Melissa), Andrew (Anna); daughter Angela Smith (Wendell); mother, Dorothy Gay Akers; brother Billy Akers; four sisters, Deborah Potter, Terresa McGee (Michael), Billie Jo Nuckols (Mark), Alesha Darlene Price; 13 grandchildren; Turon, Donovan, Steven, David III, Wendell, Wendee, Bella, Andrew, Evan, Lacey, Jackson, Angel, Alora; six great grandchildren; Brianna, Gianna, Aria, Nya, Josiah, and Heiden. Memorial services will be held on Sunday December 17, 2017 at 2 pm at Laurel Hill Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the American Cancer Society at donate.cancer.or
