Cecil C. Thomas, Sr., 68 of Spotsylvania County, lost his battle with cancer Friday, February 27, 2009 at Orange County Nursing Home.
Born in Loudon County, he was the son of the late Aubrey F. and Emma Lee Wright Thomas.
Mr. Thomas worked as a farmer for 53 years, and was a member of Zoan Baptist Church. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as being a fan of the Washington Redskins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his eldest son, Cecil C. Thomas, Jr., six brothers, and one sister.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Penelope Thomas; son, Keith Thomas; daughter, Elizabeth Gallihugh and her husband, Sonny; sisters, Elizabeth Fling and Maxine Chandler; brothers, Shirley Thomas, James Thomas, Stanley Thomas, and Robert Thomas.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00pm Wednesday, March 4, 2009 in the chapel of Laurel Hill Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6:00 - 8:00pm at the funeral home.
