Charles "Butch" Randolph Cox, 68 f Lignum, VA passed away at Mary Washington Hospital on Friday February 17, 2017 after an extended illness.
Butch was born on October 1, 1948 to William Graydon and Anna Marie (Rabold) Cox in Arlington, VA. He was raised in Fairfax, VA one of eight children. Butch joined the US Army and served in Thailand during the Vietnam War, where he met his wife Khumjen "Pen" Phaphngt, whom he married on March 12, 1970. They made their home in Lignum where Butch worked for the US Post Office until retiring. He was an avid Redskins fan and loved listening to Oldies music. Survivors include his wife, Pen; brother Wade Hampton Cox; three sisters: Betty Ann Koeber (Charlie), Martha Lee McIlwee (Ken), Janis Marie Barr (James) and many other relatives. Butch was preceded in death by two brothers; William G. Cox, Jr., Edward Francis Cox and a sister Mary Catherine Dunaway. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday February 21, 2017 at 1 pm at Laurel Hill Funeral Home with Thomas E. Sacra officiating. Family will receive friends one hour before services and interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
