Charles "Charlie" Lear Jordan, 87, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Heartfields in
Fredericksburg, Va. Charlie was born on October 12, 1927 to Chester and Teskie Ann
(Hamilton) Jordan in Eskdale, WV. After graduating from Milton High School in 1946,
he worked as a brakeman for the C&O Railroad for 7 years before going to work for the
C&P Telephone Company, from which he retired after 30 years. Charlie was very fun
loving and enjoyed sports; golf, bowling and especially tennis. He married the former
Margie V. Akers on March 26, 1966. A resident of Oak Hill, WV he was active in many
community projects one of which resulted in developing a senior division Little League
baseball park and Oak Hill's only public tennis courts. He gave free tennis lessons every
summer with assistance of his former students spreading his enthusiasm for the sport.
He said he would not have been able to get the job done without Margie's help. Upon
retiring, Charlie and Margie moved to Daytona Beach Florida where he continued to
organize tennis groups and was president of their bowling league. Due to health issues,
they moved to Fredericksburg in 2009. Survivors include his wife, Margie; stepson,
Arthur (Joan) Akers, Jr.; 2 stepdaughters; Linda (Kenneth) Morris, Jane (Joseph)
Johnson; 4 grandchildren; David and Michael (Lori) Akers, Chris (Deana) Kirk, and Kimberly
Kirk-Newberger; 3 great grandchildren: Megan Kirk, Michael James and Amanda Rose Akers.
Stepdaughter Deanna Kirk preceded him in death. Services will be private.
