Charles Vincent Donahue, 63, of Oscoda Mi., recently residing in Fredericksburg, died Friday, June 10, 2005, at his son's residence in Fredericksburg .
Mr. Donahue, a Retired Navy Chief, he received the armed forces expeditionary medal for service during the Cuban missile crisis. He served on the crash crew for Marine 1 under President John F. Kennedy; he was also a veteran of Vietnam where his unit received the meritorious unit commendation for distinguishing itself under combat conditions. He received the national defense service medal, two silver stars and a bronze star. He was a member of the Naval Fleet Reserve, and after retirement he was a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, The Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and the Knights of Columbus. He was also a Master Mason of Lodge # 397 in Gladwin, MI.
He is survived by his children, Charles Robert Donahue and his wife Shirley, of Fredericksburg, Maryann Rose Dumont and her husband Brad, of Oscoda, MI., Shawn Patrick Donahue of Fredericksburg and John Michael Donahue of Oscoda, MI., his three sisters; Edith Donahue, Barbara Langton and Alice Christiansen and his brother, Robert Kemmler and also by his eight grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted Tuesday July 5th at 10:00 am at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. The family will receive friends Sunday July 3 rd at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania from 5:00 to 8:00 PM.
Charles V. Donahue was a warrior, a poet, a philosopher, and a good father. He was loved by many and his energy, light, and laughter will be missed.
