Delmar H. Bailey passed away and went home to be with the Lord, joining his beloved wife Nawassa there on December 3, 2003. Born on January 16, 1922, Delmar was 81 at his death. He was one of seventeen children, and is survived by his three children; Jim Bailey, Mike Bailey, and Anne Polley, seven grandchildren (Jimmy Bailey, David Bailey, Allison Allen, Tinell Butler, Rachael Bailey, Erin Polley and Crystal Polley) and one great-granddaughter (Emma Delaney Scott). Delmar and Nawassa lovingly adopted and raised all three of their children in the knowledge of God and lived their lives as Godly examples. They were members of the Franconia United Methodist Church, until his retirement. Delmar and Nawassa were members of Tabernacle United Methodist Church since Delmar's retirement and relocation to the Fredericksburg area over twenty years ago. Delmar was born and attended school in McComas, W.Va.. He served his country in the Navy during WW II on a Sub-Chaser from 1942 to 1946. After an honorable discharge, he continued to serve his country, and retired from the F.B.I. with 26 years of service. Delmar was the son of Grover Cleveland Bailey and Mable Beatrice O'Brien Bailey from Leckie, W. Va. Delmar amazed his children with his compassionate love and care of Nawassa, his dear wife and wonderful mother of their children, when she became ill with a rare brain disease. Nawassa needed total care, and Delmar was her constant and sole care-give for many years until her death in September 2002. The Bible says, "Greater love hat no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends". Delmar laid down his life for the past 10 plus years while his wife was alive, caring for her minute by minute. All who were amazed by his unceasing, tireless love and care of his beloved Nawassa will remember him as a loving dad and husband who demonstrated what real and great love really is. Those who really knew Delmar saw such a tenderness and love in him over the last decade that there can be no doubt what he heard shortly after 4 PM on Wednesday, December 3, 2003: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant", "enter thou into the joy of the Lord". And then, he saw his beautiful Nawassa. . . . A memorial service will be held at Tabernacle United Methodist Church on Friday, December 12th at 7:00 pm.
