Delmer "Del" Ison, 91, went to join his Lord in Heaven on Wednesday, September 19, at his home surrounded by his family. Del was born July 21, 1921 to Grant & Mary Ison of Oscaloosa, KY. He served in the US Army during WWII. He received his J.D. from the University of Kentucky. He married Ellen Brashears on October 28, 1942 and she preceded him in death in 1994. In 1960, Del started working for DC Transit, which later became METRO, as Risk Manager. He retired from METRO after 26 years. He married Ramona McGuire Wilmoth on December 28, 1996 in Reston, VA and they moved to Lake of the Woods in 2000. He was a member of the New Life in Christ Church in Fredericksburg. Del enjoyed golfing, bowling and dancing. He was an avid fan of the Kentucky Wildcats and the Washington Redskins. Survivors include: His wife, Ramona; son, Douglas Ison; daughter, Kathy Ison; stepdaughter, Martha Kleder; brother, Glennon Ison; sisters: Alva Frazier, Gracie Boggs, Eula Gilliam & Doris Day; 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Del was preceded in death by his daughter, Sheila Wellstone, son-in-law, Senator Paul Wellstone, his granddaughter, Marcia Wellstone, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. Funeral Services will be held at Laurel Hill Funeral Home in Spotsylvania, VA on Sunday at 2 pm with Visitation beginning at Noon. Graveside Services will be held at 2 pm on Monday, September 24, at Columbia Gardens in Arlington, VA. Donations may be made in Del's name to the American Cancer Society @ Cancer.org.
