Obituary

Dorn Knight, 91, of Fredericksburg, passed away at Carriage Hill Nursing Home on Wednesday, July 13, 2016. Dorn was born (one of eleven children) on June 11, 1925 to Elbert and Mary (Hosey) Knight in Centralia, WV. He served with distinction in the US Army, 45th Infantry Division, during WWII. He was inducted on September 30, 1943. His WWII service included the campaigns of North Africa, Italy, the Landing and Battle of Anzio, May 1944, France and Belgium, The Battle of the Bulge, December 1944 and Germany, where he assisted in the liberation of the Dachau Concentration Camp on April 29, 1945. Dorn was awarded a Purple Heart with Cluster, WWII Victory Ribbon, American Theater Service Ribbon, and the European African Middle Eastern Service Ribbon with Bronze Arrowhead. After his service he became a master carpenter and practiced his profession until he retired in 1996. Dorn married Nimma Elizabeth Tinnel and they were married for over 42 years until her passing in 2000.
Survivors include: two sons, Joseph Knight and wife Barbara of Burlington Kentucky, John Knight of Fredericksburg; daughter Belinda Divelbiss and husband Jim of Lake of the Woods; step-son James Woods and wife Joyce of Birch River, WV; seven grandchildren: Joseph T. Knight, Jennifer Knight, Suzanne Herbst, Jamie Divelbiss, Laura Divelbiss, Ashley Knight, & Joshua Knight; one great-grandson Athanasius Herbst, step-grandchildren; James Woods Jr., and Wayne and Ronnie Wiltshire. Dorn was preceded in death by five brothers: Wade, Tracil, Leonard, Jack, and Lionel Knight, and five sisters: Madeline Wilson, Kelsey Wilson, Tabitha Skidmore, Erma Lucky, and Nadine Knight and a step-daughter Betty Wiltshire.
Visitation will be held on Monday July 18, 2016 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania from 10 am to 12 noon, with services beginning at 12 noon, with Pastor Thomas K. Schafer officiating. Burial will follow in the Culpeper National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Micah Ecumenical Ministries, www.micahfredericksburg.org
