Dorthelia C. Bryant, 91, Locust Grove, VA passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at her home, with her loving husband, Joseph, by her side.
Dorthelia was born on January 26, 1924 to Johnnie J. and Pearl (Ferguson) Carson in South Hampton County, VA. She completed high school and attended college, before beginning her career at Howard University, and retiring as the Executive Secretary of the English Department in 1986. She met and married the love of her life, Joseph B. Bryant and they made there home in Washington, D.C. until moving to Lake of the Woods in the middle 1970's. Dorthelia was a member of the Continental Societies, Inc. of Washington, D.C. which is an international public service organization dedicated to the socioeconomic and cultural welfare of underserved children and youth. After moving to Lake of the Woods, she volunteered at the L.O.W. Fire and Rescue, tutored reading at Locust Grove Elementary and was a member of the L.O.W. Democratic Committee.
Survivors include her loving and devoted husband; Joseph; 4 brothers; James L. Carson, Earl N. (Cecelia) Carson, Willie L. Carson and Parris D. (Jeanette) Carson; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Dorthelia was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John D. Carson and sister Jodie Mae Carson.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home from 6 pm to 8 pm, and funeral services held on Monday July 27, 2015 at 12:30 pm at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
