Emily D. Minter, 81, of Spotsylvania passed away on Sat. Feb. 22, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her family.
Emily was born on Dec. 26, 1932 to Henry and Lillian (Hockaday) Durette in Spotsylvania County. She was a lifelong resident. She married Joseph Minter, January 1953 in Spotsylvania
Emily and Joseph were the owners/operators of Marye Grocery for many years in Spotsylvania. She was a faithful member of Travelers Rest Baptist Church, and a Lifetime member of the Spotsylvania Ladies Aux. Fire Department.
Emily leaves behind 4 children, Paulette Minter, Danny Minter (Karen), Judy Luffman (Curtis), Vicky Pickett (James); 7 grandchildren: Erinn Theado (Scott), Danny "Joey" Minter (Amanda), Danielle Minter, Amanda Munro (Allen). Curtis "CJ" Luffman (Kelly), Sarah Medins (Ryan), and Jimmy Pickett (Lisa); 12 great grandchildren:Carter and Mason Theado, Riley Jo and Cole Minter, Lillian and Draven Munro, Natalie and Allison Luffman, Karlleigh Medins, McKenleigh O'Connell and JD and Madelyn Picket; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph, 4 brothers: Frank, Lewis, Thomas and Harold Durrette and 7 sisters: Edna Taylor, Hattie Dickinson, Ada Constien, Beatrice Ray, Rena Willard, Marie Jerrell, and Eva Phillippe.
Visitation will be held on Tues. Feb. 25, 2014 6 pm to 8 pm, with services held at 11 am Wed. Feb. 26, 2014, both at Laurel Hill Funeral Home with Pastors Clyde Coleman and Scott Quinn officiating.
