Esther Sophia (Carlson) Olson, age 88, passed away Friday, January 13, 2006 at Wilburn Gardens Assisted Living In Fredericksburg, VA. Esther was born in Duluth, MN on April 5, 1917, to Alyce and John Carlson. She graduated from Central High School in 1935. Ice skating was a favorite past time and it was while skating that she met the love of her life, her sweetheart, Will. Willard and Esther were married in Seattle WA on July 31, 1943. Esther was a devoted Navy wife who willingly managed home and family through several moves that took them across the country. Esther taught Sunday school, played the organ and was an avid golfer. While living in Grand Rapids, MI, she loved her five-mile walks around Reeds Lake with her Will. They belonged to Unity Church in MI and in Fredericksburg.
Esther is survived by her husband of 62 years, Willard Olson, her four children; Karen Kunz and her husband, Steve of Gray, ME, Kaye Stickney and her husband John of Waunakee, WI, Gwynne Mitchell and her husband Gene of Greenfield, NH and Byron Olson and his wife Vassa of Fredericksburg, 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her brother Donald and his wife Carol of Duluth, MN also survive her.
A memorial service will be conducted 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 17, at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania, VA. Rev. Al Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Duluth MN at a later date.
