Eugene "Gene" Preston Hinkle, Sr., 74, of Fredericksburg, passed away at his home on Sunday July 6, 2014.
Gene was born on April 28, 1940, to Lilburn P. and Genevieve (Gray) Hinkle, in West Virginia. He married Audrey Dunavant, Sept. 6 1958, making their home in the Spotsylvania area. Gene trained as a sheet metal mechanic and worked in that trade and machine shops for several years before retiring. After retiring, he became and truck driver for Algoma Doors, which he loved doing, before retiring again.
Survivors include, his wife, Audrey; 1 son; Eugene P. Hinkle, Jr. (Tina), 1 dau. Kimberly Hinkle Rogerson (James); 5 grandchildren; Lyndi and Dakota Cropp, Jodie Brook (Jason), Michelle Lear (Matthew) and Preston Hinkle; 3 great grandchildren; Todd, Ethan and Maya Lear, and 3 very good friends, Milton Hall, Matthew Duffey and Lenny Toombs.
Visitation will be Tuesday July 8, 2014 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, from 6 to 8 pm.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday July 9, 2014 in the chapel at 11 am, with interment to follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
