IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Francis "Frank"
Jandrowitz
October 29, 1938 – July 18, 2021
Francis "Frank" Jandrowitz of Locust Grove passed away peacefully at home with his daughter at his side on Sunday, July 18th, 2021.
Frank was a "Proud Jersey Boy" throughout his lifetime. He was born and raised in the small north Jersey community of Garfield. Frank married Marilyn from nearby Maywood, New Jersey on September 9th, 1961. He was the only child of Frank Jandrowitz and Genevieve Rostkowski.
After graduating high school from Pope XII in nearby Passaic, Frank chose to pursue a college education at Saint Peter's College in nearby Jersey City. He was a history major, graduated third in his class, and was awarded the Father Vincent Hart Medal for outstanding senior in Liberal Arts. Frank continued his education in New Jersey, selecting Rutgers University Eagleton Institute of Politics for his Master's Degree in Political Science.
Upon graduation, Frank enlisted in the campaign of Richard J. Hughes, the underdog Democratic candidate for Governor of New Jersey. The election turned on an appearance by the newly elected President John F. Kennedy in Trenton, NJ that Frank actively participated in developing. In a significant upset, Hughes won the Governor's election. Frank chose to stay on in the Hughes Administration serving as "Confidential Aid" to the Governor at the age of 23.
Frank served his country in the United States Army at Fort Benning, Georgia; Fort Holland, the Army Intelligence School of Baltimore, Maryland; and Fort Meade in Maryland. It was during this time period that Frank and Marilyn welcomed their daughter Denise to the family. Denise was born at Fort Meade.
In March 1964, Frank joined the American Petroleum Institute (API) as an assistant to the Director of the state Petroleum Council. In March 1980, Frank became an officer at the Institute and was named Vice President of State Relations. Frank served API for over 36 years, closing out with retirement in 2000.
During retirement, Frank enjoyed being a grandfather, meeting old and new friends, visiting his favorite cafes in Fredericksburg, and reading as many books as he could. He had a deep love for history and politics and was a frequent author of letters to the editor at the Free Lance Star (Fredericksburg, VA) and the Richmond Times Dispatch .
Frank was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn. He is survived by his daughter, Denise Haislip; granddaughter and her spouse, Amanda and Dylan Brewer; and grandson, Shane Haislip.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania, Virginia from 1pm to 3pm. Guests are welcome to attend at any point; a special service celebrating Frank and Marilyn will take place between 1:30 and 2:30pm. Light refreshments will be served. A service for both Frank and Marilyn will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers you may make a donation to either The American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer's Association.
