Obituary

Brems, Frederick Charles, 95, USAR, Lt. Col. Ret.
Early Sunday morning Fred was taken from his labor to rest after a long illness. He is survived by his wife, Margaret, two sons, Rick and Lew, four daughters, Susan, Priscilla, Barbara and Tylene, six Grandchildren and five Great Grandchildren and more friends than can be listed here.
He was born on January 2nd 1919 in Chicago, IL to Frederick William and Marie Harriel (Kleosk) Brems where he had a wonderful childhood and started his lifelong involvement with the Boy Scouts of America, including him becoming an Eagle Scout and later being awarded The Order of the Arrow.
Fred was drafted into the Army in 1941, he served in Patton's 2nd Armored Division during the Battle of the Bulge as a Platoon Commander and earned both a Bronze and Silver Star along with other awards. He remained in the service till 1979 retiring from the Army Reserve with the rank of Lt. Col.
Helen Mary Charette became his wife on Oct, 6th 1943 while Fred was in the service, He worked at Marquette Paper in Chicago and retired in 1979 as General Manager and after his retirement, Helen and Fred moved to Lake of the Woods in Virginia.
Fred was preceded in death by Helen, his wife of 42 years. In 1987 he remarried to Margaret Lois Walker, he was a member of St Mary's Catholic Church in Fredericksburg, The Retired Officers Assn, The 2nd Armored Division Assn, a lector at St. Patrick's, member of the Lions Club and a volunteer at Culpeper Regional Hospital among other actives.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 21st 2014, from 6pm to 8pm at Laurel Hill Funeral Home. Services will be Friday Aug. 22nd at St Mary's Church; 1009 Stafford Avenue, Fredericksburg starting at 11am, Burial will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park with full Military Honors. There will be a gathering of family and friends afterwards for refreshments and memories in a location yet to be determined.
