Mr. Hood died at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Virginia following a long illness. Born in McLanesboro, Ill.,Mr. Hood has been a resident of the Fredericksburg area since 1993.
A retiree of the U. S. Army, he served in Korea and retired from Ft. Devens, Mass. in 1991. He was also a member of Alden Kendred of America.
Survivors include two daughters, Dottie Helmandollar and Patricia Hayes both of Spotsylvania, Virginia; two brothers: Larry Hood of Quincy, Ill. and Maxie Hood of Mcleanesboro, Ill. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Nipper of Mcleanesboro; four grandchildren, Justin Helmandollar, Michael Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell and Raymond Stanley all of Spotsylvania.
The family will receive friends at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania, on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2003 from 4 p.m. until service time at 6 p.m. Father Paul Scalia of St. Patrick Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
