George Perry at age 84 peacefully passed away Saturday December 25, 2010 at the Culpeper Regional Hospital with his loving wife of 32 years, Barbara Joanne Perry, by his side.
He was born on August 2, 1926 in Kentucky, the son of the late George and Martha (Whitehurst) Perry. George's family then moved to St. Louis, Missouri where he grew up. At a very young age, George had a paper route, which undoubtedly started building his incredible work ethic. He was a WWII U.S. Army veteran. He commonly said "They surrendered when they knew I was coming." Due to his charismatic nature, sharp wit and work ethic he achieved success at multiple jobs to include; restaurant owner and manager, bar and club manager and car insurance manager. George started George's Liquors in Bladensburg, MD in 1960. He was owner and operator for 45 years.
One of George's favorite pastimes was betting on horses at Rosecroft Raceway in Oxon Hill, MD. George celebrated his 80th birthday in the John Hancock room with family and friends. His other hobbies included reading suspense thrillers, fishing, cutting the grass while smoking a cigar and not to forget his daily nightcap of a gin martini with his loyal and loving dog Casper by his side.
Mr. Perry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Barbara Joanne Perry, of Lignum, his two sons, Jay Stephen Perry and Jamey Lee Perry; his three daughters, Barbara Lou, Judy and Sandy, 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his sons John Wayne and Sean and his brother Dennis Perry.
He will be remembered as a supportive and loving husband and father; and friend to all who knew him. He will be dearly missed and will never be forgotten.
The family will recieve friends from 12 noon to 2:00 pm Wednesday Dec. 29, 2010 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvanaia where a funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm (same day). Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday January 26th,2011 at 11 am.
