Gordon Nelson Smith, Jr. 66, of Fredericksburg, passed away on Friday August 10, 2012 at INOVA Fairfax Hospital, after developing a rare irreversible lung disease, following heart surgery.

He was born on April 19, 1946 in Arlington, VA to Gordon Nelson and Sarah Jane (Lawrence) Smith. He married Frances A. Taylor on September 5, 1964 in Dillon SC. Gordon was retired from the U.S. Army, with 22 years of service and also from the Department of Interior as a Contracts Specialist, after 20 years.

Survivors include: his wife of 48 years, Frances; three daughters, Teresa L. Ijames of Fredericksburg, Michelle Breeden and her husband Guy, of Locust Grove, VA, and Amy Jo Doron and her husband Sagie, Virginia Beach; his mother, Sarah Jane Smith, Ashburn, VA; three sisters, Carol Stirner and Elaine Schollian, both of Ashburn, VA, and Barbara Barkes, Seville, OH; and six grandchildren. Gordon was preceded in death by his father, Gordon Nelson Smith, Sr.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday August 15, 2012 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home at 1:00 pm, with Pastor Fred Vann officiating. Entombment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park. Full Military Honors will be provided by the US Army Honor Guard.
