IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Granderson Raymond
Javins, Sr.
February 20, 1934 – June 5, 2020
Granderson R. Javins, Sr. passed away on Friday, June 5, 2020 at home at the age of 86.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Javins; his daughter Carolyn Shepherd and her children, April Cox and Scott Pearson and her husband Kent; his son Granderson Javins, Jr. and his wife Linda and their two children, Kathy Lillard and Kelly Javins; and Gina Vallette and her two children, Nikolai and Natalia Vallette; 5 great-grandchildren; and 2 nieces and 1 nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mabel Javins; his sister, Lola Devers; and two sons-in-law, Michael Pearson and Cary Vallette; two nephews, Gary and Harold Devers; one niece, Loretta Mitchell.
Raymond, as he was known, was born in Springfield, Virginia on February 20, 1934. He often spoke of his childhood memories growing up on the family farm. His fond memories always brought joy to him whenever he told his stories of going out with his cousins. The stories always ended with his favorite times, him racing his car against his cousins. He had a need to drive fast early on. His love of driving soon transitioned to bigger vehicles. This love of driving gave him the incentive to start his own company, G.R. Javins Hauling. He grew his business but never forgot his friends and family. If someone needed a job, he would try to help them. If he could not provide a job, he would help them out some other way.
Raymond was a devoted husband and father. He was married for 69 years. My mother always said that "Raymond always came home" and she never worried. He may not be home with her, but he has gone home to Heaven. Before succumbing to the effects of early dementia, he loved playing music. His favorite was the banjo. He loved to "pick and grin" and Saturday evenings would often include him listening to music and getting up to do a little jig. He was always there for his kids and always provided a warm and loving home. We did not want for anything. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, always loved and never forgotten.
A funeral service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on June 17 th at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania, VA. Reverend Jesse Booth will officiate. Flowers, donations and condolences may be offered at 10127 Plank Rd., Spotsylania, VA.
