Gregory Joseph Grooms, 55, retired Annapolis City Fire Department, of Fredericksburg passed away at Mary Washington Hospital Thursday December 15, 2016, surrounded by his family. Gregory was born on September 29, 1961 in Washington, D.C. to William Leon and Leola Rosa (Russell) Grooms. He graduated from North Western High School in Hyattsville, MD. Greg joined the Fire Department in 1985, retiring as First Class Hazmat Technician on January 1, 2016 after 23 years of Service. He married Patricia Anita Johnson on December 10, 2005 and they moved to Fredericksburg in 2013, where they attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Gregory enjoyed taking care of his family and having vacations with them, having a simple Cup of Starbucks coffee every morning before he started his day, studying and meditating on the deeper things in the Bible, welding for many of his friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Patricia; his son, Micah A. Cormier, two daughters; Gabriella M. Grooms, Meagan A. Ward; two brothers; William Grooms, Lawrence Williams and three sisters; Vickie Grooms, Sherrie Kittrell and Valerie Williams and numerous other relative and friends. Memorial services will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses of Fredericksburg on Saturday December 24, 2016 at 1 p.m.
