Gudrun "Sue" Doris Brashers, 86, formerly of Fredericksburg VA and Lake of the Woods in Locust Grove, VA, passed away peacefully at her daughter's home, near Charlottesville, VA on Monday Jan. 12, 2015. She was born on March 2, 1928 in Germany to Karl Rudolf and Anna Doris (Krause) Hilfrich. Sue married William Ralph "Bill" Brashers shortly after WWII and they resided in Europe until coming to the U.S. in 1961. Together they raised three children and eventually settled in Fredericksburg, VA in 1972. They enjoyed playing golf together and supporting the local SPCA. After Bill died in 1999, Sue lived at Lake of the Woods until health problems arose and she moved in with her daughter Tina's family in Troy, VA..
Survivors include her daughter; Valentina L. Brashers and two sons; William R. Brashers, Jr. and Barrett R. Brashers; three daughters-in-law; Dorothy "Patty". Gray, Gloria Brashers, and Valerie Brashers; her sister; Isabella Deditch; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Sandie. A dedicated team of care providers made the last years of Sue's life safe and peaceful; the family is grateful to Jennifer Jones, Mary Jones, Robin Garrison, Angela Viar, and Joneka Patterson.
Sue will always live in the hearts of family and friends, and will be remembered for her loving kindness and caring support as well as her wonderful sense of humor and insight. A private family graveside service will be held at Laurel Hill Memorial Park, Spotsylvania, VA on Saturday January 24, 2015 at 11 am.
