Herbert Louis Ball, 89, died on Thursay, April 1, 2010, of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Mr. Ball was born on July 15, 1920, in New London, Connecticut. He was the only child of Jeanne and Louis Ball.
In 1944, Herbert married Mary S. Ward, his wife of 49 years, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his only child, Debbie Ball and her spouse, Jim Bernat, of Madison, Virginia; two grandchildren, Stephanie Treadaway of Monroe, Georgia, and Noah Ball of Blackstone, Virginia; four great-grandchildren; a nephew, Bob Burns of Lothian, Maryland; and a niece, Nancy Maschmeier of Thurmont, Maryland.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 9, 2010, at Piedmont Episcopal Church on Church Street in Madison, Virginia.

Mr. Ball and his family are in the care of Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania.
