Armstrong
May 17, 1945 – September 6, 2023
Master Sergeant James D. Armstrong went to be with our Lord and Savior at his residence on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born May 17. 1945 in Alexandria, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde Charles and Marion Elizabeth Armstrong and brother, Charles Armstrong.
Jim is survived by his wife of 54 years, Thelma Carol Armstrong, 5 children, 21 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, as well as his sister, Delores Luebkert, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In February of 1964, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy and then reenlisted in the United States Air Force in 1965. He honorably served our country a total of 27 years. During his time he did a tour in Vietnam. The duty stations are as follows: Lackland Air Force Base, Cape Charles Air Force Base, Otis Air Force Base, Andrew's Air Force Base, Lakenheath Air Force Base in England, Scott Air Force Base, and England Air Force Base in Louisiana from which he retired. During his military career his duties were: Military Police, Sentry K-9 Handler, F-111 Flight Operations, he went to culinary school and received his Master Chef Degree. After his military retirement he worked as Food and Beverage Director at Hotel Bentley and followed as Dietary Manager in multiple facilities in Virginia.
Jim survived 19 years following a laryngectomy due to his exposure to Agent Orange during his tour of duty in Vietnam. Our family is so proud of his humble strength during these years. He showed us strength, determination and willpower to never give up.
