James Edward Brown, 86, of Fredericksburg, passed away at his home, surrounded by his family, Tuesday night, Apr. 2, 2013.
James was born to Willard and Alice Brown Aug. 4, 1926 in Montcoal, W Va. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1945 to 1946. He married Judy Bryant on Sept. 16, 1944 in Montcoal W Va. And she preceded him in Death. James received a BA Degree from Morris Harvey College in Charleston, W Va.. He worked in several Federal Government Departments including the Smithsonian Museum first as a Classification Specialist then as the Personnel Director. He retired from the DC Superior Court as the Personnel Director and then worked with the Virginia Lottery Commission establishing their human Resources Department.
He is survived by one son, James E. Brown, Jr.; one daughter, Connie and her husband Stan Sherman.
2 grandsons, Brian & Wanda Sherman, Scott & Rhonda Sherman, 2 granddaughters Cindy Oakes and Jennifer Worley and 12 great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by 1 brother, Lloyd; 1 sister, Arlene Jenkins and several half-brothers and half-sisters.
Visitation will be held from noon to 1 pm Thursday Apr. 4, 2013 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home Spotsylvania, Va. with funeral services at 1 pm Thursday Apr. 4, 2013 with Rev. Keith Boyette of the Wilderness Community Church officiating. In Lieu of flowers donations are suggested to Habitat for Humanity, Greater Fredericksburg P.O. Box 8265
