James Carlton Christopher Jr., 70, of Spotsylvania was called home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 21, 2022, after having fought valiantly against esophageal cancer.

James was born in Kilmarnock, VA to the late James Christopher Sr., and Ethel Goodrich. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Cindy Christopher whom he had often referred to as "woman or the love of his life." Together they have seven children often described as "his, mine, and ours" which constituted their large, blended family. Chrissie Austin (Donnie Jr.), James III (Sheila), Crystal McCoy-Drugatz (John), Chad, Cara Ballard (Sean), Jessica, and Justin. He is also survived by his beloved 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, in addition to his three brothers Larry Christopher (Patty), Robert Christopher (Cheryl), Joe, and his sister Debbie Christopher (Jake) alongside his many nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.

Over the last 50 years, James has been instrumental in the development of the commercial and residential properties in our community. He served as a deacon for Spotsylvania Baptist Church and a Gideon for many years. He was a man of few words but had a huge heart for people and was always doing for others. To know him, was to love him. The simplest of life's pleasures were cherished by James the most. Hunting and fishing, watching western movies, relic hunting, and antiquing with his wife. However, the most important thing to him was spending time with his family.

A viewing will be held Thursday, July 28 from 6-8 p.m. and the funeral will be held on Friday, July 29, 2022, at 4 p.m., at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Rd. Spotsylvania, VA., with a celebration of life reception immediately following. The family encourages family and friends to share their memories to pay tribute to his life and the legacy he leaves behind.
