James Richard Confroy, 82, former resident of Union, New Jersey and most recently Locust Grove, Virginia entered into rest Friday, October 1, 2010.
Visitations will be held on Saturday, October 9 from 3-6 and Sunday, October 10 from 6-8 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home at 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania, Virginia. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10 A.M. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 9151 Ely's Ford Road in Spotsylvania, Virginia.
Jim was a graduate of Saint Benedicts Prep in Newark, New Jersey and Saint Vincent's College in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. He spent his professional career of 40 years with Schering Plough (now Merck). Jim retired as Vice President of Chemical Operations in Ireland and Puerto Rico. He was a Charter Member of the Knights of Columbus in Union, New Jersey Council #4504. He served as the Grand Knight and District Deputy in Union County, New Jersey.
Jim is survived by his wonderful wife of 57 years, I. Patricia (Sunder) and seven children, Christine (Peter) Lijoi from Summit, New Jersey; James (Mirian) Confroy, Jr. from Cary, North Carolina; Patricia (Herbert) Johanson from Columbus, Ohio; Mary (Charles) Valenta from Ashburn, Virginia; Mark (Patricia) Confroy from Solon, Ohio; Joseph (Holly) Confroy from Apex, North Carolina; Thomas (Becky) Confroy from Piqua, Ohio and fifteen fantastic grandchildren. Jim also has two surviving sisters, Mary Mayer of Totowa, New Jersey and Sister Teresa, Sisters of Charity, of Convent Station, New Jersey. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Andrew, Father Mark and Abbot Thomas Confroy and by his sisters, Jessie Coakley, Mildred Ehret, Cecelia Meringer and Elizabeth Scheick.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Jim's memory to Lake of the Wood Fire and Rescue at 104 Lakeview Parkway, Locust Grove, Virginia 22508 or St. Patrick's Church at 9151 Ely's Ford Road, Spotsylvania, VA 22407.
