Obituary

James Lee Corbin (DOB August 9, 1918) returned to his Savior Jesus Christ and to the love of his life, his wife Dorothy, on January 22, 2019. Jim leaves a legacy of goodness over his 100 plus years. This can be seen in his family members and countless friends who have benefitted from this man. His life is a model, as a husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, friend, and patriot. He rose out of amazingly humble roots in the panhandle of Florida to live a life full of accomplishments. He dealt in good will and good acts. People who met him were drawn to his sincerity, warmth, honesty and openness. Will Rogers said that he never met a man that he didn't like. Jim lived that motto. And, it included, men, women and children. He maintained homes in Locust Grove, Virginia and Detroit Lakes, Minnesota for many decades. His favorite pastime was being with people - family, friends and even strangers. He always had a smile, a story or two, or three and, likely, a joke or two. He also enjoyed fishing and golf.
After distinguished service as a combat Marine in WWII, Marine Sargent James returned to civilian life and turned his attention to growing his family and his profession. He earned a pharmacy degree from the University of Florida, and eventually achieved success as a pharmaceutical detailer for a major international drug company, ER Squibb. He and Dorothy later owned hotel pharmacy/gift shops in the Mayflower and Washington Hilton Hotels in Washington, DC. They worked for decades in the family businesses. Scores of young people, both family and friends, got the opportunity to work their ways through school by working part time in the pharmacies. Jim earned a Pharm D degree even as he managed his businesses. They retired to their home in Lake of the Woods, Virginia in 1993.
Throughout their lives together, Jim and Dorothy enjoyed their family and friends and their travels across the country. They made an annual trip to their lake home on Fox Lake in Minnesota, where they would spend weeks to months. This became a gathering place for family members and friends from all over the country during the summer months. The door was always open.
Jim was preceded in death by the constant love of his life, Dorothy, his parents, his brother Willis and sister Vivian, and his first born, little Michael. Those who will help to carry out his legacy include his children, Stephen (Cathy), Kathryn (Keston) and Brian, grandchildren Kevin, Collin, Natalie, Valerie, Derek, Kristen, Keston Alaire, and Christopher, and great grandchildren Carter, Ezra James, Khalil, Rosemarie and Keston David. There will be a gravesite service on January 26, 2019 at 11:30 am. Arrangements are being handled by Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania Courthouse, Virginia ( laurelhillfuneralhome.com ).

The Wizard of Oz advised the Tin Man that a heart is not judged by how much you love others, but by how much you are loved by others. By that measure, Jim's heart was huge and explains why so many people have said that he is the best man that they have ever known. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that you help to share Jim's legacy with others, his stories, his good nature, his wisdom and his funny quips.
