James Patrick Donovan, 71, originally from Somerville, Mass., died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at his home in Unionville after a brief illness.
Jim is survived by his wife, Rita Lunn; his children, Shaun Donovan, Tracy Tremblay, Christine Sciabica, Kevin Donovan, Bryan Donovan, and their families, including his 11 grandchildren.
Jim, a U.S. Army veteran, had a distinguished career in federal law enforcement before retiring as chief of police for the Department of Indian Affairs in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 31, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Fredericksburg, with Father Bill Corpi serving as the celebrant. Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, at the funeral home.

Mr. Donovan and his family are in the care of Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania.
