Jean "John" Xydias, 69, of Lake of the Woods, passed away at his home, with his loved ones at his side, on Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2016. John was born on February 11, 1947 in Kalamata, Greece to Kyriakos and Vasiliki (Gouros) Xydias. After immigrating to the U.S., John graduated with Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology. He married Eleanor "Ellen" Gorman in 1973 in Rochester, NY. John retired from Eastman Kodak after 25 years. He and Ellen moved to Lake of the Woods, Orange County, VA in 2011. John was very active in his community, serving on various committees with the LOW Association, the Fredericksburg Nativity of the Theotokos Greek Orthodox Church, and AHEPA; and building and flying model aircraft with the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
Survivors include: his wife, Ellen; daughter, Christina Xydias (Brian Hauser); sister, Maria Koutavas (Elias); two sisters-in-law, Anne Reeves (Russell) and Cynthia Gorman (Rick Furlan); and other relatives and friends in many parts of the world.
