John Jay McClay Sr. of Locust Grove, VA died in his home at the age of 57 on November 18, 2013 from lung cancer. He is predeceased in death by his parents Francis and Christina McClay, as well as his three brothers: Edward, Carl, and Thomas.
Jay, as he was known to family and friends, was born in Alexandria, VA on July 25, 1956. He spent his childhood there, before marrying his high school love, Margaret Downham. The two resided in Northern Virginia for many years before relocating to Locust Grove, where they raised their family.
Professionally, he devoted thirty years of his life to the printing company Master Print, where he will be deeply missed by his many friends. His greatest source of pride was his conversion to the Roman Catholic faith in 1993, which continued to mature in abundance, culminating in his decision to devote himself entirely to a life of service as a Deacon. He joyfully spent the last three years of his life ministering to the souls of Saint Patrick's Parish. He was also a Third Degree Knight of Columbus, as well as an auxiliary member of the Legion of Mary.
He leaves behind his wife Margaret, his daughter Katherine, son-in-law Christopher, his daughter Sister Bernadette, and son, John. In addition, he leaves behind three adoring granddaughters. In life he was a fiercely loyal husband, loving father, and gentle grandfather. He was a pristine example in the application of his Catholic faith.
Jay's memory will forever be embraced by his family and all those he touched through his vocation.
