John Harold Marlin born March 23, 1946 in Arlington Virginia passed away on April 9, 2020 at 12:40 pm in his home in Spotsylvania, Virginia surrounded by his family. John was survived by his wife "Patty" Patricia Ann Marlin of 45 years, his son Jeremy Scott Marlin and his daughter Julia Ann Compher. He was also survived by his son in law Ricky Compher and daughter in law Cindy Marlin. He has four grandchildren Kelsey Reyes, Harlee Compher, Sydney Marlin, and Hunter Compher. He was also the proud great grandfather to Caden James Reyes and Ava Lee Reyes. John is also survived by his mother-in-law Peggy Yates and his brother-in-law Charlie Yates. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Barbee Marlin and his sister Bobby Joe Marlin. John also known as "Big Fish" by his firefighter brothers or "Johnny boy" by his mom spent his life serving others and working hard providing for his family. He was a firefighter for over 40 years first as a volunteer then 28 years with Fairfax county Fire and rescue. When he was not at the Firehouse, he was working his business or catching a few rounds of golf with his Dad and son in law or spending time with his family. John was known for his sense of humor and pranks with his fellow firefighters and was always willing to share his knowledge with new recruits. He enjoyed camping (road trips), fishing, golfing, and vacations with his family. He loved spending time after retirement sitting on the porch watching the birds, spending time with his beloved wife Patty. He was an avid dog lover and took great joy just spending time with them. John loved good food and enjoyed eating out at his favorite restaurants one of his favorite local places was George's Pizza or on the occasion when his son would visit from Florida, he would pick up Ralph's Bar-B-Q in North Carolina.
John peacefully left this world embraced by grace in the arms of his heavenly father.
