John Thomas Moffat, 89, of Fredericksburg, formerly of Northern Virginia, passed away Tuesday January 18, 2011 in Fredericksburg.
Mr. Moffatt was born and raised in Washington DC (Georgetown) and graduated from Western High School. He served in the US Navy as a pilot trainee and later as a weather forecaster aboard ship and in the Philippines. He attended the College of the Ozarks and the University of Georgia under the Navy V-5 Program. He worked for the US Government for thirty four years as a Contracting Officer and worked last with the Federal Aviation Agency. After marrying he moved to Virginia, to Lake of the Woods. He and his wife retired at Heartfields (a retirement home) in Fredericksburg. He and his wife enjoyed many cruises including a trip to the Bahamas, Alaska and Europe. He was a member of St. Patricks Catholic Church, Fredericksburg.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn H. Moffatt, his son Gary F. Moffatt and his wife Janice of Laurel MD, his three grandchildren, Randi McConnell, Jennifer l. and Kimberly A. Moffatt and his great grandson, Paul III
Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 PM, Saturday January, 22, 2011, at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania. The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2:00 prior to the service, Entombment will be in the Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
