John E. (Monk ) Reynolds, 73, of Fredericksburg, passed away Monday January 10, 2011 at Mary Washington Hospital. He was born on September 1, 1937 in Alexandria, VA, the son of the late Harvey and Della Reynolds.
Mr. Reynolds was a US. Navy Veteran, upon leaving the military he founded and edited the Mid -Eastern Drag News in 1961. He also founded the Super Stock Magazine and was the co-owner of the York US 30 Drag Raceway in York PA in the late 60"s early 70"s. Later in his career he owned the 1320 Club in Alexandria and the 1320 II club in Springfield.
He was the founder and owner of the Showday Farms/Commonwealth Park in Culpeper and the former owner of the Governor Spotswood Estate in Locust Grove. Before retiring he owned and operated Country Home Builders, building many buildings in the Locust Grove area including the Lake of the Woods Self Storage and the Car Doctor and many homes in Lake of the Woods.
He is survived by his wife Linda Lee Reynolds, his daughters Tara Trabor, Jonnie Kay Becker and her husband Jens, his step daughter, Pamela Cocker, his brother Frank Reynolds of Arlington and his sister Margaret Bivens of Indiana. He is also survived by two granddaughters, one grandson, one step granddaughter and a great-grandson; also by his 6 sister's in-law and 5 brother's in-law and a host of niece's and nephews and family and friends. He was predeceased by his bother Harvey James Reynolds.
The family will receive friends Friday Jan 14 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Laurel Hill Funeral Home, Spotsylvania. Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00 am Saturday Jan. 15, 2011 at the funeral home by Rev. Tom Schafer. Burial will be at Laurel Hill Memorial Park.
Pall bearers will be Jay Reynolds, Alex Judd, Jens Becker, Rick Williams, John Judd and Gary Johnston.
