Jon D. Ballantyne, 62, of Fredericksburg, passed away Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at Mary Washington Hospital, surrounded by his family.
Jon was born on Aug. 18, 1951 to Don Z. and Ira Mae (Schofield) Ballantyne in Twin Falls, ID. He graduated from Minico High School in Rupert, ID, and received his Bachelors Degree from Strayer University in Virginia. Jon married Marsha Bell on Dec. 29, 1971 in L.A. Calif, making their home in Rupert, ID. Jon joined the US Army in Feb. 1971 and was discharged in Sept. 1978. They moved to Fredericksburg in 1986 and Jon began a career as a Computer Analyst with the Dept. of Defense-Navy. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fredericksburg. Jon loved spending time with his grandchildren, family and friends as well as riding his Harley.
Survivors include: his wife Marsha, 3 daughters: Aimee Lee Sword (Carl), Becky Ann Seay (Brian); Katie Jo Sargent; 1 cousin who was like a sister; Jan Higley (Gary) of Rupert, ID; 6 Grandchildren; Brooke, Bailey, CJ, Carly, Dylan, and Beau. Jon was preceded in death by his parents and 1 granddaughter, Sydney.
A memorial service will be at 7 pm on Wed. Nov. 27, 2013 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1710 Bragg Rd. Fredericksburg, VA with a Celebration of Life visitation following the service. Graveside services will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at 1 pm at the Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, VA. His friends are asked to join the family at Laurel Hill Funeral Home at 11:30 am on Friday for the precession to Culpeper.
