Joseph Mallard Wasson, Sr., 92 of Fredericksburg, joined his Lord and wife, Alice, in Heaven, Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2015 from his home. Joe was born on February 12, 1923 to Joseph Alexander and Jimmie (Bell) Wasson at Ethel, MS. He joined the USMC on April 21, 1943, serving in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on November 17, 1945. He married Alice Denver Moore on Aug. 9, 1947 in Lexington, MS and made their home in Greenville, MS for over 50 years, where Joe worked for Southern Bell/Bell South, before moving to Fredericksburg in 2004. They were long time members of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Greenville, and became members of the Faith Baptist Church in Fredericksburg.
Survivors include: 2 sons; Joe M. Wasson, Jr., and Charlie Wasson; 1 daughter; Randi and her husband Reed Bolick; and 3 grandchildren; Heath Alexander Wasson, Ragan Blake Bolick and Glenna (Wasson) Mitre. Joe was preceded in death by his wife, Alice, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Visitation will be held on Saturday Feb. 21, 2015 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home from 10 am to 11, with funeral services at 11 a.m. with Pastor Watson Morgan officiating.
