Obituary

Joyce Eileen Corley, beloved wife of John, entered this world as Joyce Eileen Zart on Oct. 6, 1937, in Gary, Ind., and died on Thursday, Sept. 11, 2003, at her home in Locust Grove, after battling endometrial cancer. This loving wife and mother and loyal friend to so many is survived by her devoted husband and her wonderful daughter, Wendy Simon; her son-in-law, Ed; and the joy of her life, her grandchildren, Samantha Joyce Simon and Jack Edmund Simon of Arlington; and her stepson, Ronald Glenn Corley and his family of Fort Campbell, Ky. Joyce spent most of her childhood years in Iowa and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1960. She had many friends and relatives there and indeed, from coast to coast, with whom she maintained an active, caring relationship throughout her life. As a young woman, by education and inclination, Joyce was a teacher for many years. Her sense of adventure and duty carried her from school districts around America and beyond to teaching assignments in Germany and eventually to librarian assignments with the U. S. Army and the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service. A soldiers' wife, she also served, making a warm and loving home for her family no matter the posting. Fittingly, Joyce's final resting place will be in Arlington National Cemetery Columbarium, with inurnment to occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the American Cancer Society, c/o Trudy Clifton, 113 Tallpines Ave., Locust Grove, VA 22508.
