Joyce Glynn, 79, of Locust Grove, VA, gently passed away on Tuesday, April 20th, 2010, after a three week struggle with heart complications.
A vibrant woman who cherished every day and adored her family and friends, Joyce will be deeply missed by those who loved her most: Her husband, James, their four children: Gary (IN), Glory (CT), Lisa (NJ) and Jim (VA) and their spouses: Michael, Larry and Tina as well as her loving grandchildren: Adam and Mikey Gallo.
Joyce Staiger was born in Akron, Ohio, and while attending Kent State University she met and married James Glynn, the love of her life. After raising their children in Ohio and Michigan, they moved the family to Connecticut where Joyce opened The Grey Goose quilt shop in Wilton, CT. There she began working with Jim, a tinsmith, applying her skills creating and piercing the beautiful quilt designs that are found on many of the Glynn's lanterns, lamps and nightlights. In 1986, they moved to Lake of the Woods in Virgina and operated their tinsmithing business on Sophia Street in Fredericksburg for five years prior to concentrating on traditional American craft shows. Joyce and Jim Glynn are recognized as one of the top 100 artisans in the nation.
Joyce loved laughter, gardening, cooking, bluebirds, movies, books and spending time with her family. She was a beautiful woman who always saw the glass half full and she'll be missed by everyone who knew her.
A happy celebration of her life will take place on Saturday, May 22nd, at 11:30am, at the Lake of the Woods Church. In lieu of flowers please offer donations in Joyce's name to the LOW Church.
Joyce and her family are in the care of Laurel Hill Funeral Home, 10127 Plank Road, Spotsylvania.
