June Ann Lawrie, 79, of Spotsylvania passed away on Wednesday Jan 14, 2015 at Mary Washington Hospital after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Ms. Lawrie was born on June 7, 1935 to Robert Davidson and Anne (Craig) Menelaws in Caithness, Scotland. After finishing school, she joined the Royal Air Force (RAF) where she met John Lawrie Jr., who was serving in the US Air Force. They were married on June 9, 1956, and were stationed in Biloxi, MS in 1959, where she became a US Citizen. She lived in Mississippi, Massachusetts, Maine, Florida, Oklahoma, Colorado and finally settled in Virginia with her daughter and son-in-law, in 2004. June was a member of the Tabernacle United Methodist Church and the Prayers and Squares Ministry of the church. Survivors include a son, John R.C. Lawrie; a daughter, Helene Smith (Tony); a brother, Robert Menelaws (Linda); a sister, Ruth Imrie; and a granddaughter Khirstie Smith.
Visitation will be held on Thursday January 22, 2015 from 9 am to 11 am, at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Spotsylvania, with the funeral to begin at 11 am, with Pastor Moonsup "Paul" Song officiating. Private entombment will occur at a later date.
