Kathryn A. Javins passed away on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at home at the age of 85.
She is survived by her three children: her daughter Carolyn Shepherd and her children, April Cox and Scott Pearson and her husband Kent; her son Granderson Javins, Jr. and his wife Linda and their two children, Kathy Lillard and Kelly Javins; and Gina Vallette and her two children, Nikolai and Natalia Vallette; 5 great-grandchildren; one brother, Luther; and four sisters, Rosalie, Audrey, Margie and Barbara along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Granderson and two sons-in-law, Michael Pearson and Cary Vallette; three sisters, Connie, Betty Lou and Jeannie.
Kitty, as she was known, was born in Alexandria, Virginia on July 12, 1936. She often spoke of her childhood memories growing up with so many sisters. She loved going fishing with her father and brother, Luther, or as she called him Butch. Her memories always brought joy to her whenever she spoke of going shopping in Alexandria with her sisters. She missed the times when young girls could go out as a group and not worry. On one of those excursions is when she met her husband, Granderson. They would go to their favorite hang out with friends to drive on the strip in Alexandria or go to the movies. Once married, she devoted her time to her children and keeping the financial records for their business. She always thought that women should be able to stay home and take care of their kids and often spoke of how unfair it is now. Many times she would play with us and her grandchildren as if she were a child as well.
Kathryn was a devoted wife and mother. She was married for 69 years before losing her husband in June of 2020. She often spoke of Raymond after his passing and missed him terribly. She gained comfort in knowing that he may not be home with her, but he had gone home to Heaven and would see her later. Before becoming unable to move around, she loved playing cards, reading, gardening and sewing. She crocheted many doilies and created many window treatments for the home. She always wondered about so many things and loved to read and learn about new things. How things work was one of her favorite questions. Saturday evenings would often include listening to music and listening to her husband pick the banjo. She was always there for her kids and would do anything for them. Some of the best memories are of all of us just chatting and enjoying each others' company telling a few jokes. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her, always loved and never forgotten.
