SHOEMAKER — Kimberly S. Shoemaker, 58, passed away unexpectedly April 28, 2024, at Mary Washington Hospital. She was born May 11, 1965, in Hartford Connecticut, the daughter of former Fairfax City Mayor George T. Snyder Jr. and Mariellen (Farren) Snyder. Kimberly graduated from the University of Mary Washington with the class of 1987 earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She later received a Master of Science in Crisis Resource Counseling from Virginia Tech in 1994. Kimberly spent her entire career with Fairfax County Public Schools at Union Mill Elementary School in Clifton, VA. Her thirty-three year career included teaching second and fourth grades and serving as a Crisis Resource Counselor.

On April 8,1989, Kimberly married Gregory W. Shoemaker and they lived in Northern Virginia before retiring to the Lake of the Woods in Locust Grove in 2021. They enjoyed traveling and raising many dogs. They were active members of All Saints Catholic Church in Manassas, Virginia. Kimberly was a wonderful and beloved wife, daughter, mother, teacher, counselor, and friend to many.

Surviving in addition to her husband is their daughter Brooke Snyder (Woodbridge, VA). She is also survived by her Aunt Margaret and Uncle Al (Millis, MA) followed by many cousins and nieces. Kimberly was predeceased by her parents, George T. Snyder Jr. and her mother Mariellen.

Visitation and a service of remembrance will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 at Laurel Hill Funeral Home located at 10127 Plank Road in Spotsylvania Virginia. Visitation will begin at 10:00am with the service following at 11:00am. Friends and family are invited to attend a reception celebrating Kimberly's life immediately following the service.
