Lloyd Bennett
Henegar
August 17, 1937 – January 27, 2024
Lloyd Bennett Henegar, 86, passed away after an extended illness on January 27, 2024. A resident of the Fredericksburg area since 1977, Mr. Henegar was born in 1937 in Henagar, Alabama to Leon Bentley Henegar and Edith Marie (White) Henegar and was the oldest of five children.
Mr. Henegar served in the Army from February 1958 to February 1962 and in the Air Force from April 1963 to March 1967.
After meeting his wife, Patricia Henegar (née Woods), while in the Air Force, they married in 1967 and had three children, Laura, Angela, and Daniel.
Mr. Henegar was the son of a sharecropper, born in a one-room converted smokehouse, and worked in the cotton fields before the age of nine. As an adult, he served honorably in the military, worked for IBM during the Golden Age of space exploration, and helped to put man on the moon. In later years, he worked on components for the International Space Station and the sonar systems for nuclear submarines.
Mr. Henegar never met a stranger and was well known for his sense of humor and his love of fishing.
A man of great faith, he firmly believed in the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
Mr. Henegar was predeceased by his parents, Leon and Edith Henegar.
Mr. Henegar is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia A. Henegar, daughter Laura A. Henegar Echevarria and her husband Pedro L. Echevarria, Jr., daughter Angela K. Henegar Moore and her husband, Matthew G. Moore, and son Daniel N. Henegar and his wife Karyn Henegar (née Forrester), as well as his 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
