Louis Roland Downie
March 24, 1935 - February 23, 2025

Louis Roland Downie, 89, passed away on February 23, 2025, at Mary Washington Hospital in
Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Born on March 24, 1935, to John L. and Helen S. (née Macort) Downie, Louis graduated from
Ridley Township High School with the class of 1954. He attended Franklin and Marshall College
before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Air Force, where he proudly
served for four years.
Following his military service, Louis built a dedicated career with the Federal Trade Commission
for many years. After retiring from federal service, he continued to contribute to his community
through his work with Prince William County and several other jobs throughout his retirement.
Louis is survived by his sister, Yvonne McLaughlin and several nieces and nephews. His son,
Bryce Downie, passed away just days after his father. Louis was also preceded in death by his
beloved wife Nancy (née Niccolls) Downie, the love of his life, with whom he is now reunited;
and his sisters, Evelyn Smart and Carole Downie.
Louis will be remembered for his love for family and friends, his passion for music—especially
playing the piano—his joy in traveling, and, above all, his unwavering devotion to Nancy and
Bryce.
A graveside service will be held on March 14, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Laurel Hill Cemetery, 10127
Plank Road, Spotsylvania, VA, followed by a Celebration of Life at the Lake of the Woods
Clubhouse, 102 Lake of the Woods Way, Locust Grove, VA.
