A TIME TO BE BORN
Eighty six years ago according to God's divine will and purpose, Lula Belle Woolfolk Lewis was born on October 23, 1932 in Spotsylvania, Virginia to the union of Percy Woolfolk and Lucy Herndon Woolfolk, both deceased.
A TIME TO LEARN
Lula received her early education in Spotsylvania County. She attended a one room elementary school then attended high school at John J. Wright Consolidated School. While at John J. Wright, Lula played basketball. She was an exceptional basketball player.
A TIME TO LOVE
While attending Piney Branch Baptist Church, Lula met the love of her life Leon Collins Lewis and was united in holy matrimony on September 7, 1949. They made their home in Spotsylvania. They became the proud parents of five children - Sandra, Frederick, Mildred, Camille and Leon Jr. Her devotion as a mother and wife was exemplary.
A TIME TO LIVE AND SERVE
Lula accepted Christ at a early age and was baptized at Branch Fork Baptist Church. After she married she became a member of Piney Branch Baptist Church where she sung with the Senior Choir. Later she joined Arm of the Lord Ministries where she worked in the culinary ministry. In addition Lula worked outside the home in various occupations. She was a avid bowler and was a member of a bowling league for several years. She was a powerful Christian and read the Bible every day. She instilled Christian values in all five of her children and other people she came in contact with. She ministered to her community by making and giving away her famous pound cake and sweet potato pies. She was a fabulous cook and gardener. She loved her flowers.
A TIME TO REJOICE
Lula's earthly departure and heavenly ascension occurred on April 24, 2019. Although no longer with us in body, her loving memory lives on in the lives of her family and friends. She leaves behind her five children, Sandra Wright of Richmond, Va., Frederick Lewis (Jacqueline) of Spotsylvania, Va, Mildred Lewis of Spotsylvania Va., Camille Johnson (Rufus) of Richmond Va. and Leon Lewis Jr. (Vanessa) of Fredericksburg Va. She leaves behind eleven grandchildren, Melvin Jackson, Steven Wright (Alycia), Rufus Johnson III, Jeremy Johnson (Felicia), Jonathan Wright (Ivory), Christopher Lewis, Jennifer Wright, Bradley Lewis (Colleen), Rachel Lewis, Crystal Robinson (Jamie) and Nicole Cotman (Corey). She leaves behind nine great-grandchildren, Alexandra Wright, Layla Johnson, Jordon Wright, Kennedy Wright, Stevie Wright, Jonnie Wright, Jay Wright, Deon Cotman, and Daja Cotman.
Lula will also be remembered by her loving sister Martha White of Spotsylvania Va. and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Leon Lewis, Sr., six brothers, John Herndon, Billy Sunday Woolfolk, Doc Woolfolk, Willy Woolfolk, Percy Woolfolk Jr. and Tommy Woolfolk and one sister Fanny Mae Brown.
